Planning for your birth can be a bit overwhelming. There are so many options, and often you don’t know what these options are. Which is why it’s a good idea to think about them in advance. If you wait until the day when you can’t research the pros and cons as easily. My free birth plan template is an easy to use guide to get you started thinking about your options. You can simply go through the options and tick which one(s) are right for you. Or use it as a starting point for your own birth plan. I’ve covered lots of topics that I think are important, but feel free to add your own and modify.
Should you write a birth plan?
I’ve heard plenty of people say why bother writing a birth plan, or birth preferences. That you get the birth you’re given. Or that you can’t control how things go. Sure there are things that you can not control. Things like when you go into labour, where you are, who is working at the hospital that day and how busy it is. But there is also plenty that you can control. Things like how prepared you feel about birth, is your partner on the same page, what comfort measures are you taking with you and so much more. The main benefit of writing a birth plan is simply exploring your options, so that you know what is available to you. For this reason alone I think it’s a great idea to write a birth plan. Because you don’t know, what you don’t know.
The Harmony Hypnobirthing birth plan template is free to download, print out and use as you want. (Please don’t put it online anywhere without getting permission first.)
